Final-round notebook – Turning Stone Resort Championship
* On Sunday, Vaughn Taylor and Matt Kuchar ended the day on the second playoff hole (No. 12) where play was suspended due to darkness. The playoff resumed Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. EST on No. 13.* Taylor, who was No. 131 on the Tour money list with $519,282 coming into the week, has earned over $1 million his first five seasons on Tour (2004-2008).
* Taylor, who held the 36-hole lead this week, turned his only other second-round lead/co-lead into a win at the 2005 Reno-Tahoe Open. Taylor won the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2004 and 2005.
* In his previous two appearances at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, Taylor finished T18 (2007) and T15 (2008).
* Preferred lies “through the green” were allowed all four rounds.
* Matt Kuchar defeated Vaughn Taylor with a par-4 on the sixth extra hole (No. 13).
* The last six hole playoff on the PGA Tour was at the 1986 Kemper Open when Greg Norman defeated Larry Mize.
* Kuchar bogeyed No. 13 in the final round, but made par the other three rounds. Taylor made par at No. 13 every round.
* Taylor’s only other playoff on the PGA Tour was when he won the 2004 Reno-Tahoe Open. Taylor rolled in an 11-foot birdie on the first playoff hole to win over Hunter Mahan, Scott McCarron and Steve Allen.
* Kuchar’s last professional playoff was on the Nationwide Tour when he won the 2006 Henrico County Open over Paul Claxton.
* Prior to today, Matt Kuchar had never held a 54-hole lead/co-lead on the PGA Tour. Kuchar was T4 through 54 holes before shooting a final-round 6-under 66 to capture his only Tour win at 2002 The Honda Classic.
* Matt Kuchar missed the cut in his only other appearance at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in 2007.
* Matt Kuchar set a personal-best with nine top-25 finishes for the season. He recorded eight top-25s last year.
* Leif Olson (T3), a 28-year-old native of Denver, is a rookie on Tour after advancing through all three stages of the 2008 PGA Tour Qualifying School where he began the final round T25 and shot 5-under 67 to earn his card on the cut line.
* Leif Olson entered this week at No. 214 on the money list with $64,966. Olson’s only PGA Tour start entering 2009 was a missed cut at the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
* Jeev M. Singh (T7) shot an 8-under 64 in the final round to match his career-best round on the PGA Tour. Singh also shot a 64 in August at the Wyndham Championship. Singh has played 104 rounds in his career on Tour.
* Paired with 2010 Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin, Peter Lonard shot a course record 9-under 63 in the final round to finish T12. The previous course record of 64 was held by three players, including Mathias Gronberg. Gronberg recorded his 64 in yesterday’s third round when he was also paired with Corey Pavin.
* Lonard’s personal-best round is a 62 when he won the 2005 MCI Heritage. Lonard’s only other 63 came in the final-round of the 2008 AT&T National (T12).
* Scott Gutschewski (T18) recorded a hole-in-one on the 175-yard sixth hole with a 7 iron. It is only the third hole-in-one in the first three years of the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Jason Day recorded his hole-in-one on No. 6 last year, while Shaun Micheel made his on No. 16 in 2007.
* No rookie has won on Tour this year – something that hasn’t happened since 1998, when Steve Flesch won Rookie of the Year honors. At 44th on the money list, Australian Marc Leishman leads all rookies. Leishman was the only rookie to play in THE Tour Championship and finished 20th in the FedExCup standings.
