Photo - Billy Mayfair *Billy Mayfair birdied the final hole, the par-4 9th, from 4 feet,  2 inches for a 5-under 66 and a 36-hole total of 8-under 134. Mayfair is making his 13th appearance in this event and his 134 score represents his best 36-hole score, regardless of the rounds. His best finish came in 1991 when he tied for 14th here at Glen Abbey. Mayfair is a five-time PGA TOUR winner who stands No. 81 on the FedExCup points list. Mayfair tied for second at the PODS Championship in March and tied for fourth at the Shell Houston Open a month later.

*Round One resumed at 8:01 a.m. and 78 players returned to the course to finish their opening 18 holes. Play was completed at 12:31 p.m. Round two began at 10:50 a.m. The final tee time for the second round is at 6:05 p.m.

*Lift, clean and place rules/Preferred Lies are in effect for round two.

*The current projected cut is 1-under par. The 36-hole cut will be made following the completion of play on Saturday morning. The low-70 and ties will advance to the final 36 holes. Second-round play will resume at 7:30 a.m.

*Tee times for Round 3 on Saturday will run from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  Play will be in threesomes off the 1st and 10th tees with an anticipated finish time of 6 p.m.

*Here’s what the leaderboard looked like following completion of the opening round:
T1.  Eric Axely      65 (-6)
T1.  Mike Weir    65 (-6)
T1.  Anthony Kim    65 (-6)
T1.  John Huston    65 (-6)
T1.  Sean O’Hair    65 (-6)

T1.  Chez Reavie    65 (-6)
T8.  John Senden     66 (-5)
T8.  Scott McCarron    66 (-5)

*The seven-way tie at the top marked the most players to share the first-round lead in the tournament’s history. The previous biggest logjam after 18 holes came in 2001 at The Royal Montreal GC when four players – Tiger Woods, Jim McGovern, Matt Gogel and Michael Muehr – shared the lead.

*The seven-way tie for the opening-round lead was the biggest on the PGA TOUR this year. The last time as many as seven shared the 18-hole lead was the 2004 Michelin Championship at Las Vegas when Jason Bohn, Danny Ellis, Harrison Frazar, Kent Jones, Steve Lowery, Billy Mayfair and Scott Verplank all shot 8-under scores.

*Jay Williamson (back) withdrew during the first round.
Chris Stroud (81) withdrew after the first round.
Will MacKenzie (70) withdrew after the first round to return to Greenville, NC. MacKenzie’s wife, Alli, is due with the couple’s first child.
Ron Whittaker (back) withdrew during the second round.

*Carlos Franco (Paraguay) stands at 7-under par after rounds of 67-68. Franco’s 7-under score is his best 36-holes in relation to par this year. The four-time PGA TOUR winner had made only seven cuts in his first 16 starts this season. He is No. 179 in the FedExCup points standings and No. 180 on the money list. Franco’s last top-10 finish on TOUR was a T7 at the 2006 Ford Championship at Doral.

*Ken Duke eagled the par-5, 18th hole, tapping in from 4 feet, for a 4-under 67 and a 7-under 135 total. Duke, the 2006 Nationwide Tour Player of the Year, was runner-up by one stroke at last week’s U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee after putting together rounds of 67-65-68-65—265 (-15). His 2nd-place effort at Brown Deer Park GC matched his career-best, a second at the 2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Duke jumped 29 places in the FedExCup points race last week and is now No. 63.

*Two-time defending champion Jim Furyk is at 4-under 138 after a 3-under 68 in Friday’s second round. Furyk is trying to become the only player in tournament history to win the event three consecutive times. Furyk is one of five players who have successfully defended a title in this event.

*Chez Reavie, a 26-year old rookie from Scottsdale, AZ, owns the clubhouse house lead at 13-under 129. Reavie has carded rounds of 65-64 to sit atop the leaderboard. His 129 total matches the 36-hole tournament record set by Scott Dunlap (64-65) in 2000 here at Glen Abbey GC. Reavie’s 129 total also matches the lowest opening 36-hole score on the PGA TOUR this year – Will MacKenzie, John Deere Classic; K.J. Choi, Sony Open in Hawaii.

*Some background on the clubhouse leader, Chez Reavie: This is his 28th career start on the PGA TOUR, 22nd this year. The former Arizona State University standout has made the cut in 14 of his 21 starts this year, with his best effort coming at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where he tied for fifth. He was a member of the Nationwide Tour in 2006 and 2007. He finished No. 18 on the Nationwide Tour money list last year to gain his PGA TOUR card this season. His only career win came at the Knoxville Open, where he held a one-stroke lead after 54 holes and then fired a 4-under 68 at Fox Den CC to win by three strokes.

*Chez Reavie matched his career-low round on the PGA TOUR – an 8-under-par 64 in the second round of the 2004 Michelin Championship at Las Vegas, his first career start on the PGA TOUR. His career-best on the Nationwide Tour was a 9-under-par 63 in the second round of the 2007 LaSalle Bank Open.

*At the time he finished, Reavie held a five-stroke lead over two players who were finished (Mayfair, Marino) and two who were still on the course (Weir, Axley). The largest 36-hole lead in tournament history is 6 strokes, by Gene Kunes in 1935 and Nick Price in 1984 (Glen Abbey). Sam Snead held a five-stroke lead at Scarboro G&CC in 1940.
