Woods charges back, Letzig leads at Buick Open
GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Tiger Woods was hot when he walked off the course after an opening round of 71 on Thursday. He was hotter when he started his second round today. The heat had nothing to do with the weather.Woods opened with a run in which he carded birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie to stand at 6 under for the day through his first five holes played. That helped propel him to his lowest score of the year, a 9 under 63, and left him two back of leader Michael Letzig.
"Yesterday, I didn't hit my irons as close and I certainly didn't putt good at all," Woods said. "Today, I hit my irons a little closer and I made some putts. Even though I three-putted 18 and missed a few out there, I also made a bunch, too."
Letzig followed his first-round 67 with a 65 and at 12-under has a one-stroke advantage over Vaughn Taylor (65-68). Woods shares third with Roland Thatcher and Kevin Stadler.
